Welcome to the pokémon contest contest! Hello everyone! In celebration of the announcement of ORAS, me, and four others, have set up a contest inspired by what Hoenn's known best for, pokémon contests! Here's the rules: 1: There are five categories: cool, beauty, smart, tough, and cute. Each category has it's own judge: okami, Makkilemore, me, kullenuska, and spazzyjenny, respectively. 2: You can only enter one splice per category (that means no pairs, hexafusions, or anything like that), but you don't have to enter all five if you don't want to. 3: Judges can enter too, but, obviously, not the category they're judging. 4: be sure to be clear which category each splice is for. 5: You may use any gen 5 sprites or any front-facing gen 4 sprite, or even smogon's gen 6 sprites if you want. (This also applies to trainer sprites, but the final result obviously has to be a pokémon.) Each judge has their own OP. Once your splice(s) is submitted, the appropriate judge will give it a score out of 50 and put it on a leaderboard. When we feel like we've received enough entries, we'll end the contest (by unanimous vote) and the people at the top of each leaderboard will be the winners. This time, I'm judging the smart category, but due to the uniqueness of this category, I'll be judging the splicer more than the splice. That means I want you to show me how smart you are. Use as many pokémon as you can without crowing the splice, use each part wisely and effectively, and most importantly, make sure it at least looks like you know what you're doing. Of course, it doesn't hurt to make the pokémon look smart too, but don't ask me how to do that, because I have no idea. I am here to harshly judge the Tough theme! I wanna see things with a skin so thick it doesn't understand fear of needles, things with a mentality strong enough to stare down Cthulhu and WIN, things with the personality of a roughneck biker that EATS THE MOTORCYCLE. Give me ancient gods, give me Kaiju, give me that terrifying old cat next door that scraps the mailman through the letter slot. Bonus point if you put pink on it and make it look good, minus points if you use the Machop line just because MUSCLE ARMS. That's not tough, that's overcompensation. I WANNA SEE SOME COMPETITION! I'm here to judge the Cute theme this time! I'm talkin' kawaii-desu type of cute. Make it so unbearably cute that I wish that I could hug the pixels. Make my eyes literally sparkle as I go "AWWWWW!" when I see your adorable entries. Be cute, think cute. Make something threatening! I don't care if it has the meek frame of a Scrafty, so long as it has the effect of the soul-eating glare of a Bisharp! Mashing up a bunch of fighting and dark types will get you left in the dirt! Make me fear a fight with your creation, and pierce through normality to create something powerful!..
Or that would have been what to do, last competition! This time, I'm judging based on beauty! I want to see the most majestic splices imaginable this time, and I won't settle for less! If your splice is just a bunch of feminine pokemon mashed together then you will go nowhere! Think hard, and make my jaw drop when I see the radiance you give me!

I, Okami, Will be the judge for *Cool*! To succeed in this category you will need to make a pokemon that looks cool, but you'll need more than just sunglasses and muscles to win me over! (unless you have really sexy hair but we are talking about pokemon here) Get to it, make the pokemon that all the kids will want just because of looks even if it isn't that strong! *Note you will not be facing off against the previous winners*

and for Tough, UrthonThough the spines and face do make it somewhat intimidating, it's a bit too shaggy to be considered especially tough. I'll give it a solid 37. Peleoali is amazing, by the way. Not much tougher than a Rhydon would be by default. Remember people, though this is based on certain attributes, it IS a splicing competition and if your creation didn't take much splicing skill that will hurt it. It doesn't feel "tough", it just feels like Rhydon+Blastoise. Sorry, but this isn't worth much more than a 20 at best. Entirely nonthreatening, though somewhat unnerving. Definitely not worth more than a 10, at best. |

well, I was expecting that. also Octillery/Lucario fusion isn't fitting it's category too, but I have hopes in other categories, especially in cool!

(i'm guessing putting fighting types into this category is a thing now) I don't feel much intelligence from this. It just feels like it should pseudo fit in the Tough category. It's probably Lucario's pose that throws me off. Comparing this one to the other splices you made for the other categories, it's just a bit simple. As Makkilemore said, if not much effort is put into it, it will hurt your score. 15/50 Second half of entries.  I feel like this splice could be giving me philosophical advice on life. My headcanon of this one is probably like an alien that gives cryptic riddles as an aid to those who seek its knowledge. Although it looks simple, I can see you incorporated bits and pieces of quite a few Pokemon into this one. 30/50 |

pokemonscrap:  Way to start strong! It looks like Silver Surfer combined with a dragoness. The only thing the hurts the score is the remoraid face, it's too silly. But because that's a minor detail this still gets a 42/50. (btw, why isn't gallade listed as one of the pokémon used, even though it looks like it has gallade arms?) pheonixsmoon:  kind of reminds me of nobodies from Kingdom Hearts II, but also looks like it could easily catch you if you tried to run away. I definitely wouldn't want to run into this in a dark alley. 33/50 Leqso:  I can tell a lot was put into this, and it's definitely creative, but it looks more scary than impressive or badass. I feel like this would've done better in the tough category (even more so than your tough entry). 21/50 (just so you all know, I can be fickle sometimes, so some scores may change slightly when I get more entries to compare them to.)

Alright let's do some JUDGING spoiler tags because these pictures are big and they're already all over the thread gosh darnit pokemonscrap{Spoiler} Liking the cloud tentacles, not liking the torso. Could've done with some more contrast, and he sort of looks confused as to where his face has gone? Very clean sprite though, but only half pulls off the Beauty theme for me. 28/50 moonbat{Spoiler}  This one's looking alright! The fins, mohawk and colour palette are working well together. Loses points for having very awkward-looking limbs - gotta work on smoothing out its body. Try not to have linework that's all black pixels - check the original sprites and see where they change the linework colours to match the shading of the body for ideas. 30/50 Leqso{Spoiler}  Gasp! A Gardevoir dress. But I do like the theme it gives! Looks a lot like Snow White (Her original fairytale sister was Red Rose, what a coincidence). The head is messy but somehow fitting, and the white gives good neutrality to the red/blue colours. The bows on the dress look a bit awkward, a little shading behind them would have made them look less like they'd been cut-pasted on there. Watch for fitting linework colours - grey and dark blue don't look too fantastic together. 38/50 |

pheonixsmoon I really like this! Rotom is always cute when matched with a good face! I give it a 39 and nothing higher because it still has the same color scheme as rotom. Wish you wouldve changed that up a bit. Great job!
