Okay, who made the first "whole collection" comment? Because I was sure to use every part of the secret ingredient. And it wasn't easy considering misdreavus is 15% face and 70% hair. I also can't believe the splice I was least proud of was the one that got the highest score and the one I was most proud of got the lowest. I'm going to try and check for ingredient pieces in a lot of entries because I know full well how much of a component can be hidden in a good splice. Also that is a thing that happens a lot.. gotta remember that the judges aren't mind-readers and go off what they appreciate rather than creator's pride B )

Radical that I won, I'm glad to have been able to participate in this round and am raring to go for he next. But real quick: that second comment about the last splice. What exactly brought that up and what could I do to fix it?

The reason I post judges' comments anonymously is to avoid creating arguments and hard feelings if a particular splicer happens to disagree with a judge's thoughts. So I won't hand over the judges responsible for the comments that seem to be bothering VGBMichael and Pilesofpixels, and I encourage the judges not to respond directly to questions about specific comments (although obviously I can't stop you).
As a general reminder to judges, please try to make your criticisms as specific and productive as possible. That way even if the contestant disagrees, they will know how to avoid the same problems next time around.
As a general reminder to contestants, please try to remember that judging is a highly subjective thing, and we are of course all splicers ourselves with different ideas about what makes the perfect splice. What works for one judge, won't always work for the others.
I've actually been thinking it might be a good idea to have a short panel with current and past judges to talk about our judging criteria, for fun and to help splicers feel a little better prepared for the horror of having their work judged. While we wait for imafancyman to respond, does anyone have any thoughts on whether that would be a fair thing to do?

The best way to go about it is to be as specific as possible. While naming what needs work and brought down the splice is alright, stating what you could do and how you could fix it is infinitely better. It would be super helpful! Because then those mistakes can be fixed and all that, ya know? I trust the judges on what they're doing, don't get me wrong, because I feel like I'm coming off angry or bratty or stuff like that. But being specific as to what criteria brought the quality down would be soo much more helpful

I'm sorry for seeming angry, if I did, it was intended as a joke. I just thought it was funny that the judges seemed to have the opposite opinion on my splices than I did. I'm not actually asking anyone to remove their anonymity (did I spell that right?).

I'm not actually asking anyone to remove their anonymity (did I spell that right?). You did spell it right . It often strikes me as odd which of my splices people like, and which they don't. The world is a bizarre place, and everyone is just slightly crazy.

I feel like, since this is a contest and thus, winner or loser, there's always room for improvement - but it's hard to be specific with such a short amount of feedback. Fix this bit or that - but how? The feedback post is big enough as it is, having to post feedback on four sprites and the overall collection, for two people at once. Should another thread be opened purely for feedback, and we can put more Iron Splicer feedback in it as well? I'm sure a lot of people would like some open advice on it. THERE IS ALREADY ONE. Should I make an Iron Splicer-specific thread for it?
I also get the feeling that some people need an idea on how to scratch sprite, for instance the solid corners I see everywhere which are a sure sign of scratching, even in the Smogon-generated Gen6 ones (There are some horrible sprites in there).
Spriting and pixeling is an art form in and of itself, which I suppose a lot of people who have art experience have less of a hard time going about it - but making a decent sprite is as difficult and time-consuming as any larger piece. It always takes practice to get it right.

It always takes practice to get it right. THIS. I can't agree more on this statement right here. Part of that experience is getting feedback and hopefully it's in depth: a different thread to further that advice would be a great idea! That's if people are willing to give the proper advice and have the time to do so. It's more a matter of not being confused as to what needs fixing that being specific would help. But yes, this right here is 100% the sort of thing that needs to be learned

Okay let's give this a try. I have made a thread here, it's tentative and I need feedback from the other judges on it aha;;

See I tend to only make comments when it's either extremely terrible or extremely fantastic.

Well, it's been three days and there's no word from imafancyman, so we'll skip him and go to the next name on the list... learningtimebuster! Ready to go?

I'd like to be put back on the list. I'm not giving up until I've won at least once.
