i think after a few more weeks you have the 3 people that have won the most of the iron splicer contests and you put all three up against eachotehr and give them the hardest pokemon to splice with as a challenge. i think that would be fun

I've actually chosen each one-- trying to get a variety of generations, types and evolution stages. I'm sincerely sorry that some of the choices I made have made things feel more difficult for some of the splicers, it's never been my intention to deliberately make the challenge harder or less rewarding. Obviously some sprites are easier to work with than others, but then, that's true of Iron Chef and the other competition shows this challenge is based on-- sometimes you get something easy and create something truly awe-inspiring, and sometimes you get something more challenging and get to show off how well you can do in bad circumstances. Like I said, I really am sorry that I've chosen sprites that have made the competition less fun. I can definitely appreciate Kullenuska's hope that we have Secret Ingredients in a different style moving forward, but I'm also wary about making my choices specifically to suit one splicer's preference... that seems like it has a lot of potential to bias the competition. To be honest, I don't know how to resolve that. Perhaps all our splicers could weigh in on what kinds of Pokemon they prefer and I can do my best to find one that makes everyone happy. Going in the other direction, I could switch to a random number generator. That still has a lot of potential to wind up with challenging Secret Ingredients, but at least it resolves the issue of human error. A third option is that I could pass off the duty of choosing the Secret Ingredient to another judge. It may simply be that my eye for Secret Ingredients is "out of tune" with the eyes of others and one of the other judges would do a better job of choosing sprites that everyone would enjoy. If any of the other judges would like to take a shot at choosing the next ingredient, they can let me know. I like the whole "make it challenging by picking hard secret ingredients" thing, but within reason. While Mamoswine has few workable features, it's huge. That makes it a very very good base. Larvitar, on the other hand, has few workable features and is a very small sprite, so it's not quite as good of a choice.

Alright, the time limit has elapsed, and unfortunately we have only one sprite from Blake. Even if we choose to score Blake's one sprite, it is a foregone conclusion that the winner is Kullenuska, so congratulations to you! I'll still ask my three fellow judges ( learningtimebuster, idk-jenny, lavatarorigin) to send me their scores for Kullenuska's collection, and I will post those along with the first winner's trophy. We haven't discussed so far what to do with incomplete collections, where at least one sprite has been posted, but fewer than four. My suggestion would be that an incomplete collection can get scores for the individual sprites posted, but should not qualify for a "Whole Collection" score. That way an incomplete collection is unlikely to beat a complete one, but if it happens that both splicers post incomplete collection then we can still score them and have a complete contest. If you agree, please send me a score out of 10 for Blake's one sprite. Otherwise, let me know how you would prefer to deal with it. Thanks!

Meanwhile, Kullenuska, you can decide whether you'd like to come back again as reigning Iron Splicer to face your next opponent... VGBMichael! Learningtimebuster, if you'd like to choose the next Secret Ingredient, that would be great. You can either tell me what your choice is, or if you'd prefer, you can announce the start of the next contest yourself. Either way, shoot me a message to let me know!

If my opinion counts I think that if both people submit less than four, but submit either two or three, I feel that a "Whole collection" grade is fine

I didn't get enough scores for Blake's splice to post a response, so here are the scores for Kullenuska's collection: Splice #1: 35/40"A well-handled Reuniclus splice is always good in my book. There "jelly" is a bit weirdly shaped, but it's not very noticeable." "As close to a perfect splice as I've seen. A few stray pixels, and minor perspective issues, but great nonetheless." Splice #2: 30/40"Very charming, but the legs seem a bit strange and some parts are oversized for such a small base." "Love the tiny dragon! Very cute with long flowing hair and tail." Splice #3: 34/40"My favourite out of the four. A combination of splicing together two seemingly incompatible Pokémon and of making something that looks like a creature of its own is exactly what a splice would ideally be." "I love it. Very "Princess Mononoke."" Splive #4: 29/40"It looks good, but as was mentioned by the splicer, it has very little Larvitar in it." "Its right leg looks a bit disproportionate but a great splice overall!" Whole Collection: 33/40"For such a small Pokemon to work with, I think you pulled it off fabulously." "Lots of different ways of using a tough Ingredient. I'm impressed." Total: 161So, a very impressive performance again by Kullenuska, who has once again earned the coveted title of Iron Splicer: Larvitar and this handsome trophy made by Lavatarorigin: Kullenuska has also won a second trophy by Lavatarorigin of her highest-scoring splice (#1), and will be returning to defend her title against her next challenger, VGBMichael! How does Tuesday, April 29th work for both of you?

A lot of these special ones require more than one material to look good. This is another one of those cases.

Haven't heard back yet from kullenuska or VGBMichael, so I'll hold off on starting the competition today. Can I get a confirmation that both contestants are ready for a start in the next couple of days?

Alright, let's get this thing started! The end time for this contest will be at 2:30 PM Pacific (5:30 Eastern; 10:30 GMT) on Wednesday, May 7. (sorry for the lack of advance notice--if either contestant doesn't happen upon this post for a few days and needs a little extra time, let me know as soon as possible and we'll sort it out) kullenuska, VGBMichael, your very own Iron Splicer adventure is about to begin. You are a lucky pair, because this week there are TWO Secret Ingredients! Your Secret Ingredients are... Latias and Latios! Please note that each splice in your collection only needs to contain one of the Secret Ingredients; however, you are more than welcome to use both if you'd like! You both know the rules, you both have the skills! Good luck and good splicing! A la epissure!

Makes sense having both of them being ingredients since they're pretty much the same Pokemon. I like it. And Scrap, I swear the picture in your signature keeps gaining more sprites. I must be going insane.

No, I've seen the signature circulate between sprites every now and then. Last time it had Mukgar.
This iteration of Iron Splicer's secret ingredients are courtesy of yours truly. I sincerely hope it appeases both contestants.

This is the third version I've tried. After a while, the first one was looking pretty bare, so I added a bunch more to it, but then I thought it looked too disorganized because I just pasted wherever there was room. So I made this version, where there is some actual back-to-front organization. It's still not perfect, but I'm liking it better. Thanks for noticing!
To make this post properly on-topic, here is the current waiting list:
1. Alakazarn 2. Ohctanex 3. Makkilemore 4. Okami

I thought this morning, what if the ingredient is Latias? What would I do with that? And I came to the conclusion that I would probably do badly because there's so much you can do with it and I would pick all the wrong things And then it turns out to be both Lati@s and I'm just oh YOU KNEW [I'm going to keep going until I lose. or reach five rounds. i'm gonna do it]
