Iron Splicer is back!
Congratulations to both contestants! It has been a great and challenging battle.
Just a reminder of how scoring works: Each splice received a score out of ten from each judge, and the whole collection also received a score out of ten from each judge. The scores have been tallied together to protect the anonymity of the judges, so the scores are presented here out of forty.
The contestant with the highest total score wins the trophy, the special prize from lavatarorigin, and the coveted title of Iron Splicer!
Without further ado, here are the scores for this week's battle, along with a sample of the judges' comments:
OhctanexSplice #1 (top left): 32/40"It's like a cuddly pet with sharp pokey bits! The top fangs aren't quite right."
"A unique splice that definitely expresses creativity. The only problem I see is some size proportion errors and anatomy mishaps (we all do them)."
Splice #2 (top right): 25/40"I like the idea of an evolution line, but the bottom part could use more detail. Basically a larger version of the previous sprite."
"Again, marvelous splice, but the teeth seem to be very nonsensical in both their placing and their perspective, which can especially be seen with the top row."
Splice #3 (bottom left): 21/40"I like the rocky texture given to the grey segments, but the shading on the rest of the body seems backwards and doesn't work out very well."
"It would look amazing and be more points if the coloring was done better."
Splice #4 (bottom right): 27/40"The lighting on the rocky segments could have done without that brightest colour, or perhaps it could've been dimmed down a bit. The legs seem a bit strange and don't fit in all that well with the body, seeing how there is basically no transition from the main body's shading to that of the left leg."
"Line issues here too, but good selection of parts."
Whole Collection: 25/40"I appreciate the cohesion that a rock/ground thing gives to the whole collection, but I would have liked to see some more variety of shapes."
"Exhibits a lot of creativity, but the results could have been edited better."
Total: 130ShslsplicehetSplice #1 (top left): 31/40"I like the use of the fangs as a mouthpiece. Not bad, although there are some shading errors."
"An amusing combination. The mirrored claws do make the hair look a bit off, though."
Splice #2 (top right): 26/40"Simple, but it's been put together very well. It could have done with a bit less of Drapion and a bit more of Venomoth, though."
"I like this one a lot actually ehe"
Splice #3 (bottom left): 20/40"The face is just too plain and needs more detail. I see some outline errors as well."
"Again, this is a bunch of parts put on Drapion, like the last one. The left eye seems very off, and the mouth has some very systematic shading on top of it."
Splice #4 (bottom right): 26/40"Practically perfect. A little trouble around the mouth."
"While Chandelure is considered by many to be a free ticket to a good splice, I am inclined to disagree. If pulled off correctly, then yes, it can look very good. But it doesn't exactly work here, due to some placement issues and an awkward-looking mouth."
Whole collection: 25/40"Although the splices had many problems with the colors and some of the splices lacked creativity, the collection is still well-rounded."
"More variety in shapes and approaches would be an improvement."
Total: 128Congratulations to Ohctanex on a hard-fought (and very close) victory!
And to the winner go the spoils. You have earned the title of
Iron Splicer: Drapion, and this handsome trophy made by the amazing lavatarorigin for your signature (or for any other place you care to put it).
In addition, lavatarorigin has offered a special prize of a trophy of your profile picture or another sprite of your choosing, so make sure you let him know which sprite you'd like to have bronzed!
At this time I believe we have no one signed up for the next Iron Splicer contest, so I'll begin taking names! Ohctanex, you have the option to stay on as the defending champion if you wish. Shslsplicehet, you did a great job and you are more than welcome to add your name to the list for a future contest if you like!
