For instance: "Pokemon Diamond and Jade" I had a copy of Pokemon Jade. A friend gave it to me for free for some reason. It's a pretty fun game even if the horrible translations make it hard to understand. Telephone-based monsters and shit.
Anybody else run into fake pokemon games like this?

Not really... I've always wanted to play one though.

I've assisted in spreading some shit around, including some knockoff Pokémon GBA game that was essentially Ruby/Sapphire with some dodgy trainer placement and about half the Pokémon replaced with badly-made sprites with badly formatted names. This was back in 2009, I think. Probably have a copy of it lying around somewhere, might be fun to check that out sometime.

BURSTS THROUGH THE GROUND DID SOMEONE MENTION TELEFANG
pokemon diamond/jade isn't a knockoff pokemon game, it's a knockoff telefang game, which actually got a sequel for the GBA and it's really pretty, but it doesn't even have a terrible translation - it's entirely in Japanese. A Chinese bootlegger got hold of Power/Speed, the first game, badly translated it, slapped 'Pokemon' onto the title with some irrelevant monster designs, and that's where diamond/jade came from. The denjuu monsters do actually like curry, though; that wasn't a mistranslation.
I did get a hold of Pokemon Gold many years ago on emulator (before they were any good or reliable), and it was amazingly terrible - when you reached Olivine, for instance, your rival comes out of the gym and says he needs to 'take a piss' and then walks off. Good times.
