I consider myself to be part of a previous generation of splicers. I started out on Youtube, having discovered the likes of Aquablade11's "Aquablade Chronicles", Twoohfive205's "Pokéfreaks" and ShadowSword996's "Rare Pokémon Splices". Eventually, I myself began making Pokémon splices about halfway through 2008. They weren't exceptionally good, to say the least. I continued making splices up until halfway 2011, at which point the last of the previously mentioned "idols" had stopped participating in splicing. Skip ahead two years, I rebooted my Tumblr account. Eventually, all the leaks about XY started spreading through the site, and through that I somehow ended up over at TSplicA. After lurking about for a bit, I came to this very forum and started splicing again. I submitted some splices to TSplicA, made some forum requests, and I even have recently made a blog dedicated to splicing. So, now I'm curious how you all got into the community. Perhaps TSplicA was your first splicing experience, perhaps you've been around since Venustoise became a thing, or maybe, like me, you came from Youtube. Perhaps you even have a different origin, but do go ahead and tell.

I first started splicing waaaay back at the dawn of the Pokemon age-- Pokemon Red and Blue came out in English when I was in high school (yes, I'm that much older than you), but the idea managed to hit enough of my geek buttons that I was interested in it anyway. After watching some of the anime and playing some of the games, I found some of the old Sugimori hand-drawn promotional art online and for some reason I thought it would be neat to mix Pokemon together. I don't remember what program I used, but it almost certainly wasn't Paint. Maybe Corel's photo editor, whatever it was called. I made a bunch of splices using the original 151 Pokemon (since that was all there was at the time!), but none of it was very good. That splicing phase lasted for maybe ten or twelve splices over a span of a few months, and somewhere between 2000 and 2012 all the files got deleted or lost. When Gold and Silver came out, introducing the concept of interbreeding different Pokemon types, the idea of splicing came back into my mind, imagining what the offspring of different pairings might look like. I never bothered trying to create any more pictures though. (But, to skip ahead, this is the reason that my first sprite splices were a Gastly/Grimer and Gengar/Muk; because these were the only Pokemon that I had ever bred for moves... I wanted a Muk who knew Mean Look!) So, after Gold and Silver I basically forgot about Pokemon. I was in college and had important things to be doing, didn't think it was worth buying a new Game Boy just to keep up with the game series, and the promotional pictures of Kyogre and Rayquaza made me think that the series was getting too polished for its own good. Then this happened, and made a big enough splash on tumblr that even I, not in the fandom, noticed it. I went to thatsplicingadventure and from them to some of the other splicers working at the time. I thought, 'by golly, I bet I could do that,' and opened up Paint to try. I made a version of the Fantastic Four out of Golem, Jynx, Mr. Mime and Infernape, as well as the aforementioned Gastly/Grimer and Gengar/Muk, which I submitted to tsplica, and then kept splicing. After I had made ten or twenty different splices, I started my own blog to share them all. And that's how that happened.

I was one of those kids who grew out of pokémon when pokémania fell (even though I didn't know about that at the time). Then later, in high school, I heard two of my friends talking about black & white (which hadn't been released yet), and I was like, "You guys still play pokémon?" And they were like, "Yeah." And I was like, "Oh."
After that I kinda went through my own personal pokémania where I became obsessed with everything pokémon. From RPs, to manga, to webcomics, to nuzlockes. Near the end of it, I discovered a sprite editing program that's free, Mac-exclusive, and actually pretty great. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but I couldn't let something so rare go to waste. That was when I found TSpliceA on Tumblr, and, well, you can probably guess the rest.

Yo can I just.. I'm really glad that TSplicA inspired so many people to start or get back into splicing!
I saw some splicing tutorial videos on youtube back in 2009. I tried it out and made ridiculous things and giggled like a child. I posted some of my stuff on youtube (if you're a good enough detective, you can find it!) but most of my splicing happened on bulbagarden's forums. I joined a sprite shop but that only lasted for a year or so.
Skip to the end of 2010/beginning of 2011, I got back into splicing to show some stuff off for some friends that I made in a Pokemon RP group. Then, my brother challenged me to do that splicing adventure which then became ThatSplicingAdventure and I've been splicing since.
So really, you all have my brother to thank.

My backstory isn't epic, it's just long because I'm just mildly narcissistic.

Yeah, and parts of mine may not be entirely relevant. I just wanted to share that stuff too.

Those were the glory days of spriting. I'm quite flattered that someone actually remembers Rare Pokemon Splices.
Started splicing back in '07 after watching some of Shizadd's spriting vids.
