Tumblr Tips
If you run a splicing blog on tumblr I'm sure there are many things you've had to learn as you go.
Luckily, there is a Tips page over at TSplicA. Unfortunately there is still other information.
I'd like to share what I know, and I hope that it will spark discussion and that others will share insights as well.
Tumblr Re-sizes Photo Post Images
When you upload an image into a photo post it seems that the original size is 'discarded', and is scaled up to meet tumblr standards. You may notice the size on the end of the filenames when you click to view them larger.
Tumblr automatically re-sizes to the following widths; 1280, 500, 400, 250, 100,75sq. (src) You can avoid re-sizing by uploading images that already meet this criteria. This may mean lots of white or transparent space in your file, I'd recommend centering your image in the space.
Avoiding the Grey Box
TSplicA says 'upload the image in a way that it wont show up as a gray box'. If you are adding an image into a post that isn't a photo post - or a new text post - open a new text post in a new window/tab - you can upload the image directly to tumblr!(and avoid re-sizing) right click the image and copy the url into the correct post.
Posting Requests
TSplicA suggests that you 'Post questions as pictures to make the post rebloggable.' On Windows 7 you can use the snipping tool (Start button, type snip) to get a good image and save it. You can also rely on the ol' Prt Scrn, paste, crop. This allows your request posts to be reblogged to increase visibility, and also allows you to reply to the original request privately to let the requester know it published in the event they don't track their username (include a link!).
Speaking of usernames
Tumblr doesn't do so well with the tracking of hyphenated usernames. Tag requests with hyphens AND with them replaced with spaces.
That's all for now - do you have any advice for tumblr usage?

(PS. I'm sorry if this doesn't go here, it was my best guess - feel free to move it if necessary)
