And that doesn't work all the time to be honest. So long as the parts have a semblance of what they are and you're fusing these things together, it's still a splice. Scratch work or no, to the point you can't tell what was used or to the point where it's really obvious what parts came from which sprite.

I'm sure splicing is 3 times easier when you have the ability to scratch sprite (unfortunately for me, because i suck at it.). I'm pretty sure scratch splicing has helped others, not just me, from having a mental breakdown because they can't splice what they want. Or even just a tiny bit of scratch splicing is ok. Reshading is scratch spriting.

Reshading is scratch spriting. Indeed it is! Reshading, tweaking parts, making them all together. Any varying amount of scratch work is always helpful. And hey, don't beat yourself up about it. Everyone starts somewhere. Take this for example This is one of the first splices I ever made involving scratch work. Jagged edges, wonky outlines, botched shading all over the place. But that's okay. We all learn and have that capacity to improve on skills! So don't even fret over it, you'll get the hang of it.

My best partially scratched splice would have to be this: Which i recently submitted to the Pokemon Contest Contest.

pilesofpixels, you have less than 19 hours to post the remainder of your collection! Damn, I'll post the other two soon! I thought it was till the 20th, but I'll get them up soon! Number three of four, a kirin type thing! Number four of four, some strange eldritch horror/alien. I tried to make the tails on the side look like hair, but it doesn't really feel like it turned out as such

Huh. That is weird, cause like okami said, they're showing up on my end. Regardless, here they are again! 3 of 4 is a kirin type thing! 4 of 4 is an eldritch terror/alien type of creature!

try hosting them on a different site. when i view image it says tempmedia, so tumblr might have removed them. try using imgur, which you don't need an account for, or upload them proper to tumblr or something

They've shown every time for me; I think it's a problem on someone else's end.

Well that really is weird '3' Hopefully this doesn't mean I'm disqualified or anything since the last two weren't judged on time

I was able to judge yours the first time they were posted, but for some reason they became not visible a while later. I can see the ones you posted now though, so I'm sure they are too. I use photobucket for my uploading.

Thank you all for your patience through the long delay, let's wrap this exciting contest up! Each judge gave a score out of ten to each splice, and a score out of ten to each whole collection. To protect the judges' anonymity, I've totaled the scores together, so each splice and each collection is given a score out of 40. The contestant with the highest total score is declared the winner. Without further ado, here are the scores for this contest, along with a selection of the judges' comments. Pilesofpixels
Splice #1: 32/40"Good choice of parts." "Interesting design although the coloring is weird; I feel the red is too contrasting to the grey and I think you miss the coloring to the outline of the tongue inside the mouth." Splice #2: 31/40"Love the grumpyness." "A couple of outline issues, and not enough Vulpix, but a very creative splice." Splice #3: 35/40"Oh hell, that's really neat. The stripes on the body look a bit strange, but other than that it's an amazing sprite." "This splice is absolutely visually appealing." Splice #4: 28/40"Overall great although could add some shadowing underneath those mouth tentacles. Really love the extra detail of those tentacles protruding out of that skirt thing." "Impressive, but somehow a bit generic. It looks somewhat like a counterpart to Yuefoh." Whole Collection: 31.75/40"Your splices are exceptionally interesting, but I don't think you really explored the different ways the Secret Ingredient could be used. "You're very mythologically driven, aren't you?" Total: 157.75
Phoenixsmoon
Splice #1: 26/40"It's cute in a strange way but the hair part seems to jut out weirdly from the actual head." "The shading is off... and this splice could use a tail!" Splice #2: 32/40"Looks pretty damn great, actually. The shading on the dress is a bit strange but other than that I really like it." "Elegant-looking, and nearly symmetrical." Splice #3: 27/40"Bit confused at what those things beside the main stomach parts are. Unique splice though." "The creativity is really apparent. A little more Vulpix would have helped." Splice #4: 29/40"The anatomy is lacking, and the tail seems way too large and generally really weird." "Adorable although simple splice. Loving the pink on black." Whole Collection: 29.5/40"This set was more on the elegant side and there's nothing wrong with that." "Great variety of shapes and colors, and use of the different Vulpix parts." Total: 143.5The winner of this Iron Splicer contest is Pilesofpixels! Congratulations! You have won the coveted title of Iron Splicer: Vulpix, and this handsome trophy made by the one and only lavatarorigin. In addition, you have won the right to continue on and face another Iron Splicer challenge, if you so choose. If you continue on, your challenger will be... VGBMichael! Phoenixsmoon, you gave us a great collection, and you are more than welcome to sign up again for future Iron Splicer adventures!
